EL MARTILLO AT CLIMATE PARADE, SUNDAY 10.10.2010 BRANDENBURGER TOR, 2 PM

EL MARTILLO / THE HAMMER El Martillo is the result of an Eclectic Electric Collective project for the climate conference in Cancún. After its use in Sundays Climate parade at Brandenburger Tor, it will be sent to Mexico folded up and packed into a suitcase. Upon arrival it will be carried by a climate caravan through the streets, from Puebla, through Mexico City, all the way to Cancún. El Martillo is our contribution to the struggle for climate justice during the COP 16, the climate conference in Mexico. The concept and the construction of the hammer is the result of a collective work process.

Rafael Ibara says:
"The hammer is a symbol for a movement from below. It is our gift to the demonstrators in Mexico in order to lend their demands a visual presence."
Sarah Drain explains: "The hammer is a tool which can be used in both a constructive as well as a destructive way. Its connection to climate change is that we now have a choice to take responsibility for a change in our own hands or to let the destruction go on."

"El Ratillo" is a part of the "Battle of the Spectacle" exhibition, which will be simultaneous with the climate conference in Cancún from the 27th November to the 10th December in OKK, Prinzenallee 29, Wedding.

The White Diamond von Werner Herzog und Filmclips von Bread and Puppet Theatre

Zuerst gibt es eine Präsentation über die „Bread and Puppet“-Theatergruppe aus Vermont, die die absolut erste war, die überhaupt Rießenpuppen in Demos benutzt haben. Das Bread and Puppet Theater ist durch Workshops und gelegentliche Aktionen, auch durch seine Studenten und Schüler, präsent und aktiv, zum Beispiel in Sarajevo während des Jugoslawienkriegs, bei Protesten gegen die Weltbank, die Welthandelsorganisation WTO oder die Republican National Convention, die George W. Bush nominierte, wo Dutzende von Puppenspielern verhaftet, misshandelt und deren Puppen konfisziert und zerstört wurden.

Wir zeigen danach einen Herzog-Film über eine Expedition in Guyana, wo Wissenschaftler mithilfe von einem Zeppelin mit dem Namen The White Diamonddie unerforschte Natur der Gegend zu untersuchen versuchen.

„Der Film, der dabei entstand, überhöhte die Ereignisse und Bilder jedoch in eine andere, eine "kosmische" Dimension. Man hat eher den Eindruck eines Requiems für einen Planeten, der für Menschen unbewohnbar geworden ist; die Ereignisse verwandeln sich in etwas Anderes, Neues. Das Ergebnis ähnelt so eher einem Science-fiction Film, als einer herkömmlichen Dokumentation.“

Susanne will elaborate on the Tipping Point narrative as her cultural studies research field and then try to find out in a wider scope which narrative fits best to encourage its audience to take action.
